One person has crushed to death while another was seriously injured in a ghastly accident that occurred in Oton area of Sapele, Delta State.

Daily Independent learnt that the accident occurred Tuesday along the popular New Farm area in the Sapele metropolis.

It was gathered that the speeding unnumbered Mercedes-Benz GLK crashed into the okada rider killing him on the spot while his passenger was rushed to the hospital.

The driver of the GLK was said to have rushed injured woman to hospital in Sapele. She was believed to be going to farm in a tricycle also known as keke.

An eyewitness said that the okoda man had picked the woman from the market area before the speeding GLK driver brushed them from behind.

The accident happened right in my presence. The driver of the GLK was on speed and he crushed the okoda man and the passenger he was carrying to farm from behind.

“The okoda man died on the spot while the GLK driver rushed the seriously injured passenger to hospital. We thought both occupants of the motorcycle were dead. I doubt if the woman would make it but except by the grace of God,” the eyewitness said.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) who spoke on condition of anonymity said that the woman was in a critical condition while the body of the okoda rider had been taken to the Sapele Central Hospital morgue.

It would be recalled that not less than 10 persons have died in accidents resulting from reckless driving by suspected Yahoo Boys in Sapele.

On Tuesday July 7, two persons died in a fatal accident that occurred while police officers were chasing a man suspected to be Yahoo Boy in Sapele.

Similarly, on August 2, a suspected Yahoo Boy died along with two other ladies in a car accident after their car collided with a stationary tanker carrying cements in the city.

When contacted, Delta Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the accident, saying that it was fatal. “Somebody died but I am yet to get full report,” he said.
