The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Saturday received 27 Coordinators of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Kwankwasiyya Movement in 27 states of the country, including Adamawa, Bayelsa, Osun, Kogi, Zamfara and Ekiti.
Another 150,000 other defectors were also received by the ruling party.
The event, which attracted a mammoth crowd, took place at the Kano Pillars Stadium, Sabon Gari, Kano.
Among the defectors are former gubernatorial candidate of the Green Party of Nigeria (GPN), Abdulsalam Abdulkarim, popularly known as AA Zaura, Sadiq Takai, Salihu Sagir Takai, Risqua Murtala Muhammad and Binta Rabiu Spikin.
Farouk Adamu Aliyu, who represented the Acting National Chairman of the APC, received the defectors.
While handing over the defectors to Aliyu, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said: “I now handover the decampees to you to brief our National Chairman for their full integration, full cooperation and full membership registration in APC.
“By joining our party, you have equal share, equal origin and equal respect with every other member of the APC. Now, throw your red caps for destruction, because today you are born again; you are no more PDP, no more for Kwankwasiyya, but you are APC and you are Buharists,” he said.
Ambassador Olorunmi Femi, a Kwankwasiyya member from Ogun State, said he has dumped Kwankwasiyya because the movement lacks focus of the political reality on ground.
AA Zaura said: “Today, it is clear that Nigeria has a party to depend on, and as such, I am coming into the APC to join a matured political movement.”
