The Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum, on Monday signed into law, the N248bn 2021 appropriation bill.

The budget size was however increased from the N208bn proposed in December 2020, to N248 bn by the Assembly.

In increasing the budget, the lawmakers explained that it is with the purpose of catering for industrial projects by the Borno plastic industry and the Maiduguri International Hotel among others.

Zulum had in his initial presentation proposed N135.1 billion representing 65 per cent for capital projects while N72 billion was earmarked for recurrent expenditure.

The governor, while signing the budget at the council chamber of the Government House in Maiduguri, charged all ministries, agencies and departments to comply strictly with the provisions of the 2021 budget.

He also directed his cabinet members to accelerate activities in their ministries for the people of Borno to derive maximum benefit.

Earlier, the Speaker of the Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan earlier explained that increase of the budget from N208 billion to N248 billion was to cater for industrial growth that will increase job opportunities.
